You’re considering surgery – you’ve talked to your doctor, or, perhaps, a specialist. The information below is designed to help you make the best possible decision regarding where to have your surgical procedure.
You may want to have your surgery at a hospital.
-or-
You may want to have your surgery at an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) such as Copper Ridge Surgery Center – a health care facility designed to safely provide same-day surgical care, including diagnostic and preventative procedures, outside the hospital setting.
First question to ask your physician is;
“Which facility is the most appropriate for me and my procedure?”
If the answer is, “Either one is appropriate,” here are important questions you’ll want to ask:
1. Ask your surgeon’s office for the name(s) of your procedure(s) and CPT code(s) – a 5-digit code that will be used to estimate your out of pocket cost.
2. Call the 800 number on the back of your insurance card and ask for your deductible and coinsurance responsibility.
3. Have your insurance card out, and call the hospital and ASC of your choice and request an estimation of out of pocket costs for your surgery.
Medicare Patients:
Using the Medicare.gov Procedure Price Lookup Tool, you can compare national average prices for procedures done in both ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) and hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs). You'll see how much the patient pays with Original Medicare and no supplement (Medigap) policy.
