Registration Receptionist

Job Summary:

Under moderate supervision, admits all patients and assists patient family members.  Responsibilities include reception, switchboard, scheduling and medical record handling.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Obtains / verifies insurance information and demographics to pre-register the patient into the patient information system.

Greets patients and family members, verifies / obtains accurate, complete demographic and insurance information and consents on patient charts.

Obtains appropriate patient/guardian signatures on required forms. Creates accurate labels for charging and name band.  Labels forms using established policy and procedure.

Ensures patients and their family members’ information needs are met regarding their surgical procedure or other concerns.

Participates in chart preparation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality are maintained.

Accurately, and in a timely manner, distributes forms to appropriate areas at time of registration.

Receives cash payments from patients and follows corresponding procedure for cash collection.

Acts as a liaison between recovery room, operating rooms and waiting room.

Responsible for labeling and identification of Medical Record numbers of all patient medical records.

Participates in the Surgery Center’s Quality Improvement Program activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies.

Attends all center meetings and educational opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

Minimum two to four years related registration/receptionist experience, preferably in a health care setting.

Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals and personnel.

Ability to work independently and to organize and to prioritize work efficiently to achieve the Surgery Center’s goals.

Keyboard skills of 50 wpm minimum.

Ability to operate computer, various software packages (preferably Microsoft Office, Windows), copy machine, fax machine and other machines.

Education:

High school diploma.

Experience:

Minimum of two year medical office/hospital experience preferred.

Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Ability to interact with a customer service mindset in a professional,courteous and responsive attitude.

Good organizational skills.

Working Conditions:

Requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking.  Lifting and pushing of light to medium objects.

Works in a clean well-lighted and ventilated environment with no apparent direct exposure to physical hazards.
