Peri-Operative Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides clinical and administrative leadership to Team Leaders in the OR, Endoscopy, Pre/Post and CPD departments providing oversight of each area
  • Oversees Radiology
  • Manages scheduling, including the block schedule for the OR and Endoscopy suites
  • Acts as clinical resource to surgical and endoscopy services, throughout the entire patient encounter
  • Makes purchasing decisions
  • Holds meetings and communicates with staff on a regular basis
  • Attends and participates in QAPI meetings
  • Ensures clinical processes meet or exceed regulatory and accreditation agencies guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of national association best practices and responsible for implementing within departments
  • Assists the Director of Clinical Operations in service line development according to the strategic plan
  • Oversees performance reviews, employee recognition, incentives and disciplinary actions with Team Leaders
  • Proactive in employee mentorship, feedback and coaching as necessary
  • Ensures the clinical areas run smoothly and efficiently
  • Assists Director of Clinical Quality in the development and maintenance of appropriate policies, protocols, and procedures
  • Seeks ways to reduce inefficiencies; identifying opportunities for improving quality, services and procedures
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Educator to facilitate cross-training where appropriate, along with ensuring competencies and educational opportunities are attained
  • Working knowledge of service line revenue and expenses
  • Maintains a cooperative, team-oriented functioning relationship among departments
  • In coordination with Human Resources and Team Leaders, responsible for staff recruitment, training and education
  • Assists in budget planning, forecasting and implementation of OR, Endoscopy, Pre/Post and CPD departments
  • Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate benchmarks and anticipated scope of services
  • Maintains effective, respectful and professional communication between staff, anesthesia providers, physicians and additional healthcare partners
  • Supports and promotes a team environment
  • Responsible for implementing cost-saving measures
  • Collaborates with the Infection Preventionist/Infection Control RN to support the infection program
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA guidelines
  • Assists in the preparation for any internal or external audits by ensuring compliance with any and all regulations
  • Consistently adheres to a high standard of professional ethics and is a role model for other staff members
  • Creates and maintains a culture of safety
  • Performs and/or oversees follow-up on safety issues, occurrence reports and root cause analysis with appropriate Team Leader(s)
  • Strives to improve the overall quality of healthcare for each patient
  • Ensures staff support the mission and values of the company
  • Maintains required licensure and certifications
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned

 

SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work positively with patients, families, physicians and professional peers
  • Possesses knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
  • Has knowledge of and follows Universal Precautions and guidelines
  • Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations
  • Must provide excellent customer service skills; professional friendly attitude; be team oriented
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented, ability to multi-task, and has strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must be tactful, discreet, and able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment
  • Effective leadership skills; willingness to lead staff, provide guidance and direction, encourage and establish mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members and effectively communicate change
  • Nursing assessment skills utilizing basic nursing theory
  • Knowledgeable of common medications and their relationship to anesthetics and the endoscopic process, including IV moderate sedation techniques.  
  • Effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills 
  • Intermediate computer and technological skills
  • Knowledge of accepted AORN, SGNA and Michigan Department of Health standards
  • Basic understandings of finance and budgeting principles

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Current MI licensure
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS and PALS certifications required within 1 year
  • 5 + years as a licensed Registered Nurse
  • 2+ years of experience in peri-operative services
  • Must obtain CGRN, CNOR or CAPA certification within 18 months
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in a clinical setting
