Job Title: Peri-Op Intern (Paid) - OR Nursing

The peri-operative internship program (AORN) provides education and hands-on experience to become an Operating Room Nurse. Previous OR experience is not required but qualified candidates must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing and possess current MI RN licensure and BLS certification.
Acceptance into the peri-op program requires a 2 year commitment to education and training. Performance requirements will include reading assignments and competency assessments in addition to hands-on training in various surgical specialties.
This position is paid and full time, requiring 40 hours on-site per week (5 days/8 hour shifts). This position includes base pay, quarterly pay, paid major holidays, 16 days of paid time off (PTO) per year, health benefits, 401k plan (one year of service requirement) and more!
Provides safe, efficient, and quality-driven care to patients utilizing nursing practices and diagnosis in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities and acting as a patient advocate.
Communicates appropriate patient care information to all O.R. team members and post-anesthesia staff.
Utilizes nursing judgment, critical thinking skills and interpersonal communication skills to deliver the highest quality nursing care.
Supervises and educates other members of the surgical team.
Carries out physician orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. Completes patient charting accurately and concisely.
Communicates and interacts with patients, families, physicians and peers in a positive and supportive manner.
Maintains required professional licenses and certificates. Attends and participates in continuing education programs, communication groups, and staff meetings.
Complies with cost containment practices. Participates in quality assurance monitoring.
Adheres to and assists in the development of policies and procedures.
Observes all safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines. Complies with health and safety rules and procedures at the Center.
Demonstrates knowledge of AORN standards and recommended practices. Adheres to standards to maintain a sterile and safe environment in the OR. Responsible for observing and maintaining the integrity of the sterile field.
Works with management to establish appropriate patient clinical criteria, record-keeping, confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines, processing of scheduling, identification, patient care and QA.
May assist in other areas of the Surgery Center as needed.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current MI RN licensure
BLS certification required
ACLS recommended, not required
At least 6 months of nursing experience; critical care experience preferred, not required
Demonstrated decision making and organizational skills
Change oriented and creative
Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations
Will serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting; Standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds required
