Endoscopy Team Leader

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages day-to-day operations in the Endoscopy department
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates work activities of the Endoscopy personnel
  • Seeks ways to reduce inefficiencies; identifying opportunities for improving quality, services and procedures
  • Oversees employee timecards, vacation requests and completion of employee payroll
  • Completes introductory and annual appraisals
  • Oversees the development and supervision of staff in the Endoscopy department
  • Establishes work schedules and assignments for staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels
  • Responsible for ensuring customer service needs are met; works with leadership and physicians in the resolution of complaints and service issues
  • Assists in budget planning and forecasting for the Endoscopy department
  • Conducts meetings with staff as necessary
  • Supports and promotes a team environment
  • Monitors the use of staff, equipment, and supplies to ensure effective use of resources and cost containment efforts
  • Assists Peri-operative Manager in working/coordinating with vendors in the procurement of new equipment and in servicing of staff
  • Serves as clinical resource and as needed, performing direct patient care in the Endoscopy rooms as needed
  • In coordination with Human Resources, conducts interviews, hiring and training of department personnel
  • Maintains professional communication between staff, anesthesia providers, physicians, physician practices, and additional healthcare partners
  • Facilitates performance management, including new hire evaluations, annual performance reviews, mentorship and disciplinary action
  • Creates and maintains a culture of safety
  • Assists in development and maintenance of appropriate policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure patient safety, comfort and quality care
  • Maintains awareness of applicable advances in medicine, information technology, government regulations, accrediting agency regulations and any additional standards specific to healthcare and ambulatory surgery centers
  • Participates in Center’s clinical Quality Assurance including benchmarking
  • Collaborates with Leadership to ensure clinical process meets or exceeds regulatory and accreditation guidelines
  • Assists in the preparation for any internal or external audits by ensuring compliance with any and all regulations
  • Monitors quality controls and medication logs; performs follow-up or further investigations as necessary
  • Facilitates strong communication amongst staff and between departments
  • Performs follow-up of occurrence reports related to incidents, adverse events and near miss reporting in a timely manner
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Works cohesively with departments and communicates pertinent changes or needs effectively
  • Assists in risk management and education as needed
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work positively with patients, families, physicians and professional peers
  • Possesses knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
  • Has knowledge of and follows Universal Precautions and guidelines

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff

  • Nursing assessment skills utilizing basic nursing theory
  • Knowledgeable of common medications and their relationship to anesthetics and the endoscopic process, including IV moderate sedation techniques
  • Demonstrated effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills 
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to; medical software, payroll software and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstration of Endoscopy clinical experience
  • Knowledge of accepted SGNA and Michigan Department of Health standards

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree from accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Current MI licensure
  • 5 + years as a licensed Registered Nurse
  • 2+ years of experience in Gastroenterology setting with knowledge of accepted SGNA and Michigan Department of Health standards
  • Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing preferred (CGRN) or achieved within 18 months of serving in Endoscopy Team Leader role
  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification required within 1 year
  • Previous leadership experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to control or feel objects, grasp, move or assemble objects
  • Frequently required to stand, sit and walk
  • Rarely required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to talk or hear; read, write, understand and carry out directions
  • May assist in patient care including patient movement or lifting up to 50 pounds
