Endoscopy Team Leader

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops, supervises, and evaluates the endoscopy personnel
  • Establishes work schedules and assignments for staff according to workload and procedure schedule.
  • In coordination with Human Resources, conducts interviews, hiring and training of department personnel
  • Maintains effective, respectful, and professional communication between staff, anesthesia providers, physicians and additional health care partners working collaboratively as a team
  • Coordinates scheduling efforts with physician offices
  • Facilitates performance management, including new hire evaluations, annual performance reviews and disciplinary actions
  • Creates and maintains a culture of safety
  • Communicates effectively with patients and visitors when questions arise.
  • Works closely with vendors and the Materials Coordinator in evaluating, purchasing and implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of new or updated equipment
  • Assists in development and maintenance of appropriate policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure patient safety, comfort and quality care
  • Maintains awareness of applicable advances in medicine, information technology, government regulations, AAAHC, CMS and any additional standards specific to gastroenterology, central processing and ambulatory surgery centers
  • Participates in Quality Assurance initiatives, including benchmarking, planning, performing evaluations, making recommendations and implementing changes through QAPI studies
  • Facilitates staff development and cross-training, ensuring educational opportunities and requirements are attained
  • Collaborates with Leadership to ensure clinical process meets or exceeds regulatory and accreditation guidelines
  • Communicates with Munson Medical Center's lab regarding specimen collection and reconciliation.
  • Completes or effectively delegates clinical practice audits
  • Supports the roles of the Infection Preventionist, Safety Officer and Clinical Nurse Educator
  • Monitors staff’s electronic medical record documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Facilitates strong communication amongst staff.
  • Performs follow-up of occurrence reports
  • Works cohesively with other departments and communicates pertinent changes or needs effectively
  • Assists in risk management
  • Supports and ensures clinical staff shares CRSC’s missions, vision, and values
  • Performs IV Moderate Sedation under the direction of a qualified physician
  • Oversees high-level disinfection of endoscopes
  • Maintains patient and employee confidentiality
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed

SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of management and organizational theory
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employee development to train, delegate, mentor staff
  • Knowledge of medical safety practices and standard requirements to evaluate existing standards and implement new procedures
  • Ability to apply or modify principles, methods, techniques of professional nursing
  • Effective at critical thinking; ability to make sound judgment and decisions
  • Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations.
  • Efficient in writing reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and the public
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and direct the work of staff
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Computer and software skills including but not limited to electronic medical or health record (EMR or EHR) software and Microsoft Suite

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current MI licensure
  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing required within 18 months
  • 5+ years as a licensed Registered Nurse
  • 3+ years of experience in Gastroenterology setting with knowledge of SGNA standards through association membership
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • Previous leadership experience
