Clinical Care Assistant is a non-exempt hourly member of the Surgery Center team participating in its missions and values. Provides quality patient care and housekeeping services as needed. Displays confidence, quality, trust, respect and teamwork. Participates in the Center’s convenient, cost-effective and quality-driven care.
Assists in inventory control, next-day preparation and stocking of supplies at the Center.
Able to anticipate and prioritize team needs. Communicates appropriate patient needs to supervising nurse and leadership team. Able to multi-task to performs activities with efficiency and speed.
Maintains a clean and safe environment in all patient care areas, waiting areas and restrooms in the Center. Performs housekeeping functions / room turnover such as cleaning stretchers and chairs, patient care equipment, emptying trash and soiled linen, keeping med/nourishment room clean,etc…Communicates additional or special cleaning needs to company contracted to provide after-hours housekeeping services.
Functions in a “team” approach to provide quality patient care to include obtaining vitals, urine specimens, getting patients up , removing IV, providing nourishment, and assisting to dress, along with other care needs as directed by supervising nurse.
Admits patients to pre-op area in an efficient manner, utilizing process as outlined by team leader and supervising nurse.
Utilizes good communication skills while interviewing and assessing patients as well as communicating patient needs to nurse.
Participates in cross-training to other clinical areas to meet Center’s needs.
Communicates and interacts with patients, families, and peers in a positive and supportive manner.
Has good understanding and complies with NMSC’s Infection Control Program. Follows Standard Precautions and good hand hygiene protocol.
Attends and participates in staff meetings and educational opportunities. Reviews changes / revisions to policies and procedures. Meets annual HealthStream requirements.
Complies with cost containment practices. Participates in quality assurance monitoring, such as infection control audits and patient call backs.
Observes all safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines. Complies with health and safety rules and procedures at the Center.
Participates in orientation of new staff.
Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the unit and Center.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines, identification, patient care and QA.
Maintains all required certifications (CPR). Performs efficiently in emergency situations, taking direction from the Team Leader.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS
One or more years of demonstrated nursing assistance and/or housekeeping experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
Knowledge of appropriate OSHA safety and Universal Precaution guidelines.
Demonstrated decision making and organizational skills. Change oriented and creative. Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations.
Will serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting. Standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
